On Sidepodcast.com Found sidepodcast in April 2008, listening to his first show in May, with Episode 62 - Back to the Flying Business. He managed to survive just a month and a bit before commenting on sidepodcast.com, which happend to be during the live commenting of the Canadian Grand Prix, the same race in which his favourite team, BMW Sauber, managed their first win with Robert Kubica coming ahead of team mate Nick Heidfeld. As time progressed, he changed his name from Gaulty to RG and decided to put random stuff in brackets. His personal favourite 'brackets' were (I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no Montagny) and (As insane as Bernie, as cute as Montagny, as dangerous as Sato). Since that first post in June 2008, he has said many infamous things, including:
But as the new year approached (this new year being 2009 incase you are reading in say 2032) RG opted to get rid of the brackets and just simply use the ol' nickname. As part of his new years resolution, also set up his own blog, The Northern Waffler (originally F1 Waffler). As well as writing on his own blog, he has wrote a special guest post on sidepodcast.com, Couldn't Have Asked For More was originally meant to be an email for the Debrief to finish that night, however it was so long and so good that it was transfered onto the site. He is expected to write another one to plug his Sidepodradio show in the near future. As mentioned, he is set to take part on the Sidepodradio extraviganza on Sunday 20th September 2009, with his own show 'The Nostradamus Effect' due to his likingness to predict. Example of these predictions for the Belgian Grand Prix: 1) Heidfeld (what?) 2) Glocky (honest, no bias) 3) Barrichello 4) Raikkonen 5) Webber 6) Fisichella 7) Kubica 8) Trulli — 9) Sutil 10) Hamilton 11) Kovalainen 12) Buemi 13) Lemon and Limey 14) Baddriver 15) Grosjean (Retired but still classified) – r) Button – Accident r) Rosberg – Gearbox r) Nakajima – Accident r) Vettel – Spin r) Alonso – Wheel-y bad problem – Number of drinks consumed by RG – 3 Number of times RG moves due to the sun – 4 Number of times RG gets sidetracked by the football – 8 As well as supporting BMW Sauber, his favourite driver is Timo Glock and has admitted he is a bit more than a favourite driver... First comment on Sidepodcast.com: "Well intresting race, from what it looks like then, Heidfeld will surely be filled to the end of the race, Kubica then gets past him so he is released and get some time. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Nick wins, that would be a great confidence boost, and Kubica comes second." On Sidepodcast Related Podcasts RG has been on sidepodcast podcasts for over a year now. First appeared on F1 Debrief via e-mail during the week before the Valencia GP, complaining about lack of progress made by BMW on making the 2008 car after the Canadian GP. Also e-mailed complaining about the quality of the German F1 coverage (RTL) and the news that Canada had lost its grand prix amongst other things. As well as e-mailing, he has voicemailed once on the episode 'Do I Really Sound Like Fisicehlla?', talking about his local circuit, Croft. As well as this, he featured on the short lived chat section of the Debrief. In Episode 1 he called in about Takuma Sato and on Episode 93 about Croft. As well as being on the Debrief, he has also been on his one episode a series rota for the popular Sidepodradio. His only panel appearence was in the second ever episode with Alex Andronov as host. He was on the losing Apple Cake team, where he was famed for being short, but to the point. One example was when he was asked 'If you were in charge of the FIA for one day, what would you do?', he replied simply 'Bring Back Canada'. Additionaly, he was the host of the first episode of the second series, asked questions on which driver you would have as a test driver, what BrawnGP's livery should be and which driver do you have a man crush on. However, the episode was most famed for as RG lost battery on his phone before the end of the question. In the next episode, he was linked to Super Aguri for not finishing what he started. Made his first Tremayne on 17th May 2009. Complaining about Max Mosley and the FIA. It also featured the debut of a singing tremayne, as he sung part of Yohanna's Is It True (Iceland's Eurovision entry from the day earlier) after admitting to having a crush on her. The full set can be found here. A consistant feature is bridges, which he describes as fun to drive across The first street design was Newcastle, which he has described as his personal favourite. After a brief spell in designing a Cardiff circuit in February, RG has not yet released any more designs, but is intresting in doing so in places like New York, Paris and in Italy. The Brackets In order (What the hell happens at 1 in the morning) (Formally Known as Gaulty) (Experiencing Technical Difficulties) (Please let this work) (Posting Comments to Quickly) (I hate mod queues) (I'm losing the plot and may resort to spamming) (I'm back baby) (Back from Sunning in Portugal) (The Nurburgring/Sato/BMW fan) (The BMW fan) (Somebody else) (Penguins and Depressed) (Hate FIA, change FIA, make FIA betterrrrrr) (Aiming to become the president of the FIA) (Kommen Sie auf BMW, Sieg in Singapur (me mark II) (R.G(R.G[R.G{R.G}])) (Will take blame for the brackets) (my fuji, its mini me) (my fuji, if this expression doesn't catch on, then your missing something) (my fuji, i managed to break sidepodcast.com) (My fuji, Kubica for the championship) (My fuji, 12th October 2008, the day LIVE went wrong) (Before anyone accuses me of bias, I do support BMW) (A depressed Tottenham and BMW fan) (Live comments, Rating 12, May feature references to football) (My fuji, oh sweet god) (Creator of Sidepodcast : The Movie) (Brackets are like a wiki, you can edit it whenever you want) (Crush him like an ant, no not Davidson) (I don't think we can fix the internet, or maybe we can) (I must have watched more Merlin than Ollie) (Sounds like Rob Smedley, thinks like Mario Thiessen, looks like Heidfeld) (I jinxed Felipe Massa) (I found it first) (I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no Montagny) (Why does it always rain on me, is it cos I shot Montagny) (You give love a bad name) (I'm a PC and this is my comment) (This is the R.G answer machine) (This bracket is empty, if you wish to advertise please contact RG) (For the record, I like the 2009 cars) (As insane as Bernie, as cute as Montagny, as dangerous as Sato) (Please Don't Ask Me where I got the E from) (Bracket censored by sidepodcast.com) (Survivors : A pandemic is taking out F1, who will survive?) (It's pronounced arr-gee) (I want to watch Formula 1, not bloody Formula Renault) (Sack the board, Sack the board, Sack the board!) Impressively managed to break sidepodcast commenting system when he used an extra long name, to date also, the shortest time he has spent on one single name. Decided to remove brackest after February, going for a sleek look including the name without a '.' On F1 Is well known to be a BMW Sauber supporter, prefering Nick Heidfeld to Kubica. However, he also likes to follow the Toyota boys, one of the few reasons they managed to make it into his 2009 Fantasy Racers outfit. His favourite circuits mainly include the non-Tilke designed ones, but preferably Nurburgring and the now dropped Montreal. He does not like the Ferrari team full stop, or Kazuki Nakajima as he still hasn't forgiven him for crashing into the back of Kubica in Australia 2008. Again does not like any of the Tilke circuits, but mostly that of China. Earliest memory of Formula 1 was the 2001 US GP, which so happend to be Mika Hakkinen's last win and Murray Walker's last race that he commentated in. Began fully watching Formula 1 in the 2006, but has always supported Sauber since the start. On Fantasy Racers Finished 2008 in 148th after joining in Canada. He has stuck with the same five drivers since the start, Coulthard, Webber, Kubica, Heidfeld and Vettel. His highest ever points finish was 604 in Italy. For 2009, he called his team 'Chucking The Rule Book Out'. With a preliminary team of Kubica, Heidfeld, Trulli, Vettel and Glock. After an awful start, he has stuttered along with a solid mid table performance, averaging along between 290th and 310th all season long. On Other Intrests Is well known to be a football fan and occasionaly helps out Christine and Me when they ask about football. However he does not like Superleague Formula, despite his favourite team, Tottenham Hotspur, being involved with the series. In other sports, he likes Rugby League, darts and does like to watch other sports such as Ice Hockey. Also plays football for an unsuccessful team, currently since joining sidepodcast, his team has failed to win a single game, and managing few draws. Also an avid television watcher, being a fan of CSI (all forms), The Simpsons and Soccer Saturday with Jeff Stelling. As well as reading, enjoying the current horror series by Darran Shan and intrested in the recently released Fighting Talk book. Also listens to many podcasts other than sidepodcast, in being the likes of Fighting Talk, Football Weekly by The Guardian, Filmspotting, 606 with Danny Baker, The Spurs Show and Friday Night Comedy from Radio 4. |
